1 - Our Services

Our Services

We make cookbooks based off of family recipes. All of our recipes have a history to them and most have been passed down from generation to generation. We interview clients while they cook to create a unique, one of a kind book for you and your family!

2 - Our Process

Our Process

At Culinary Perspectives, we create a one of a kind experience and final product for our clients.

1. The Interview

As our clients cook their family meal, we interview them in their own kitchen. During the meal, we take photographs to document the process.

2. Design

After the interview, we design the book based on the content of the interview and conversations with our clients.

3. Product Shots

We remake the food in our studio to take product shots, secondary shots and, of course, eat the food!

4. Publish

The final step is publishing the book and distributing it to our clients!

Our Clients

Whether you’re a millennial, baby boomer, or part of the greatest generation, our services are designed for you and your family. We create an experience and product that is unique to each of our clients. We've collaborated with three generations of a family to create a full cookbook, and also worked with individual persons to create personalized cookbooks just for them. No job is too big or too small for us to take on.

  • Do you have a family recipe that you would like to pass along to future generations?

  • Have you cooked with your grandma? mom? dad?grandpa?

  • Do you want to know more about your family history, food and traditions?

The Cookbooks

Some families choose to make private cookbooks and other families allow us to sell copies of their books. We create yearly compilations as well as individual recipe books.

The finished product was only part of the gift. In the process, my dad let slip some details about my grandparents and growing up in Queens that I'd never heard before - and that's the kind of thing you really can't put a price on.

I received emails, letters, and happy phone calls from members of my family!! They were all amazed how professional the book was made. Now the recipes of my grandma will not be forgotten.

About Me

Preserving family history and traditions through food

My name is Matthew Hanson. I started Culinary Perspectives in 2015 as a graduate school project. I fell in love with the idea of learning more about people and their cultures through food. I quickly learned that I could create books on individual recipes and make a unique product that goes beyond traditional cookbooks. We are based out of Ellicott City, Maryland. However, we've worked with clients all over the country and in England.

We also do freelance work with food and general photography. Please click here to see more of our portfolio.
